Media Language essay 1B

Media language is the way in which the meaning of a media text is conveyed to the audience. The production that i will be analysing in this essay is the film opening which we created for our AS coursework. This production was focused on a gang who are trying to break into a bank. The genre was action comedy, therefore we made the opening fast pace using lots of different techniques like foley and different camera angles  Media language was presented through this film opening product in multiple assorted manners with the use of mise en scene, camera, sound, and editing. Mise en Scene allowed us to empower women especially through the use of the characters costume. We did this by having the female gang member dressed exactly the same as the males, which presented her to the audience as equal to the men. The general view would be that the female would not be as dominant as the males, however we wanted to diminish this stereotype by empowering the femal...

Narrative Essay 1B

arrative is very important as it makes all of the different parts of a production flow together coherently. My group ensured that narrative was quite liberally applied to our clips as the fast pace of our action/comedy film opening would have been quite confusing otherwise. "Not So Die Hard" was marketed as a comedy heist film, and so we had to keep the chronology of the footage we shot for it relatively simple in order to keep the audiences' attention. Todorov's theory about narrative's having a beginning, disruption, equilibrium and ending had some importance to our film opening, but instead of following the whole narrative through, we decided to only include the beginning of the heist -the preparation of the getaway van- and the disruption -the bank door being locked- as we felt that having this cliffhanger ending to our film opening would entice more audience members to watch the whole film rather than see the whole plot within the short clip. Genre 1B essay

Genre is a very important feature in media, with certain characteristics making up trademark styles of different genres (for instance, horror films will have loud bursts of music to emphasise jump scares). This helps the audience to relate better to films, as they will be drawn in more to watch productions that have these stereotypes relating to genres that they favour. We incorporated genre into our film opening in a multitude of ways, by using a lot of key components that tend to feature in many action films such as fast-paced music and quick cuts to emphasise the tense setting. To properly incorporate genre into our production, we used theories from Daniel Chandler and Steve Neale to help further our film opening being classed as an action/comedy film. The editing and camerawork we did for the opening included motion blur and handheld shots with intentional shakiness to emulate the haphazard preparation of a heist. Other effects we used were cross dissolve as well as brightness ...

audience essay

The audience of any media product is extremely important as the audience is essentially responsible for the success of any media product. In our case, the media product I will be analysing is my music video which formed a large part of my Advanced Portfolio in Media this year. Whilst filming and editing our music video we made sure to be very conscious of our target audience and the way in which are target audience would consume our product so that we could ensure we were appealing to the appropriate demographic for our artist, Paleme. The first stage of ensuring we had our target audience’s needs and uses in mind was to analyse the genre of the music video, which in our case was alternative pop. We chose the song Drugs by the artist Adam Jenson because it has not got a music video and, at Adam Jenson is relatively unknown and so this was a good choice for our group. When analysing the target audience we used psycho graphic categorisation and looked into other artists...

Conventions Essay 1A

In your experience, how has your understanding of conventions developed through creating your productions  Throughout my two years of studying media I have produced a short film opening as well as music video. While producing these product, I have learnt all about how to use and develop forms and conventions. In year 12 we produced a film opening and chose to produce an action comedy. We knew it was important to identify a genre as this made sure the film opening would be easy to understand and have a clear narrative. With it being an action comedy, we knew we had to include some of its stereotypical conventions so that the genre would be portrayed. Some including; Empowering characters, criminal activity, as well as an element of risk within that story line. We know this because we researched into the genre and what forms where included in similar films. The central intelligence was one of these examples as it had the similar story line.  We also made sure to i...

Research and Planning Essay 1A

I created two pieces of texts in my coursework during my AS and A level. For my AS I created a film opening with the genre of my choice, I created an action comedy named “Not So Die Hard” about   a group of teens robbing a bank. In my A level coursework, I created a music video, I chose to do an alternative song and called it “Drugs” in my music video I wanted to make it very fun and make it seem as though there is nothing better than having fun with friends, in my music video I wanted him to seem different  so therefore we did a "trippy" editing with extreme camera angles. For AS I did some research for the film opening, by looking at premade films and also music videos. The music video for ‘ central intelligence ’ really was a huge influence for our film opening. This is because it was similar to what we wanted in our film opening.  For our A2 production I feel as though our research was a lot more thorough and we managed to do a lot more in-depth resea...
